About this place
At Bampire Tennoji, you can take your time over Hoppy, choosing a small plate to go with each drink. Some customers who ordered white Hoppy say they added more shochu—the “nakami”—and enjoyed several glasses. The menu offers white and black Hoppy sets, as well as shochu on its own for refills. One diner paired black Hoppy with crab-stick tempura and salted mackerel; even if you plan to stop for just one drink, you can settle in and put together a meal at your own pace.
The stew is a good place to start when choosing a dish. The menu lists a stew made with carefully selected domestic offal, with options including egg or tofu only. One visitor enjoyed the egg-topped stew with fried liver, aubergine with ginger and leek with miso dressing, adding more Hoppy shochu as they went. Another described the stew as piping hot and strongly flavoured. Fried liver is listed as a Banpaiya speciality, and aubergine with ginger and leek with miso dressing are also available. You could build a spread of fried food, stew and vegetable snacks, ordering a little of each.
There is fish to choose from, including sashimi and grilled dishes. A diner who ordered shime saba—vinegared mackerel—found it memorable as an affordable plate. The menu also includes seared shime saba with vinegared miso sauce, and grilled bonito belly, which can be seasoned with salt, sauce or soy sauce. Choose between raw and grilled fish to suit your drink.
The bar is suitable for eating alone, whether you want a quick drink at the counter or something more substantial. Alongside Hoppy, the drinks menu includes green tea shochu and highballs. It is a place to drop into in Tennoji and choose drinks and small plates to suit your taste.
